Image used for representational purpose only BHUBANESWAR: With eastern India witnessing an unprecedented surge in new Covid infections, the Odisha government has asked the Centre for 20,000 oxygen cylinders, 15 lakh doses of vaccines and rapid antigen test kits on priority. The state on Thursday added 10,521 fresh cases from among the 48,314 samples tested, taking the test positivity rate to a very high 21.77%. Seventeen more people died of Covid in the state in the past 24 hours. Currently, around 14,000 Covid patients are hospitalised, of which 2,200 are in ICU. Around 400 patients are on ventilator support, officials said. With the latest single-day infection count, the total positive cases in the state since the detection of the first patient on March 15 last year has crossed the five-lakh mark. Representative image BHUBANESWAR: Odisha has managed to vaccinate 54.90 lakh people by using 53.28 lakh doses of vaccines as on Friday. Each vial is meant to vaccinate 10 persons. However, a manufacturer gives 11 doses, in case one falls short. If the vaccinator correctly extracts each dose into the syringe, 11 persons can be vaccinated from a vial for 10. This will ensure negative wastage, resulting in vaccine savings, government authorities said. Odisha: Govt issues SOP for requisition of Tocilizumab, other drugs | Bhubaneswar News

BHUBANESWAR: The state government has issued a standard operating procedure (SOP) for requisition of Tocilizumab and other drugs for treating Covid-19 patients. It has recently formed an expert committee of three senior doctors of SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack for taking decision on use of Tocilizumab for Covid-19 patients on a case to case basis. Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra, additional chief secretary (health), has issued this circular to all district collectors, municipal commissioners, chief district medical and public health officers (CDMPHOs) and chief of medical colleges and hospitals. The SOP stated that some key points should be considered before the use of this drug like presence of raised inflammatory markers (inflammatory conditions). Patients should be carefully monitored post-Tocilizumab for secondary infections and neutropenia. BHUBANESWAR: With evidence suggesting that the pandemic is moving eastward, the Odisha government has asked the Centre for 30,000 oxygen cylinders, 15 lakh doses of vaccines and rapid antigen test kits on priority. On Thursday, total 10,521 more tested positive for Covid-19 in the state from among 48,314 samples tested with a test positivity rate of 21.77%. The state witnessed 17 new deaths in the past 24 hours. State’s additional chief secretary (health) Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra said the state sought 20,000 Oxygen Cylinders 10000-jumbo type, 10000-D Type (smaller cylinders of 47.5-litre capacity).

In a letter addressed to Union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan, Odisha additional chief secretary (health) Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra also sought 1000 para monitors, five lakh N95 masks, two lakh PPE kits and 10 lakh gloves. “NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant on Monday had chaired a meeting of chief secretaries and health secretaries on the liberalised policy on international assistance during Covid-19. During the meeting, the Aayog had informed about the materials donated by various countries. The state has asked for them accordingly,” a government official said.
