Police forces around B.C. are cracking down on drivers who refuse to leave their phone alone.
March is Distracted Driving/Occupant Restraint Awareness Month and police will be ramping up enforcement for distracted driving.
“Fatal and serious injury motor vehicle collisions due to distracted driving are completely preventable and BC RCMP Traffic Services is reminding drivers to keep your eyes on the road and your hands up on the wheel,” Cpl. Mike Halskov, BC RCMP Traffic Services, Media Relations Officer, said.
Police say distracted driving is responsible for more than 25 per cent of all car crash fatalities and is the second leading cause of fatal collisions in B.C., resulting in an average of 78 deaths each year.

The Regional District of Central Okanagan board has approved a unanimous recommendation from the North Westside Provincial Restructure Planning Grant Standing Committee to request funding and support from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs for a governance and services study.
If funding is approved by the province, a consultant would be hired to document the current state of local governance and service delivery within the North Westside Fire Service Area; understand the concerns and interests of area residents and identify and assess future governance and service delivery.

A couple of things to keep in mind as we head into the weekend. First of all it’s Spring Break for students which means they are out of school until March 28th. And don’t forget that Daylight Saving time begins on Sunday, so before you go to bed Saturday night set your clock ahead one hour.
Dr. Bonnie Henry reported another 569 new cases of covid-19 in BC yesterday, with 26 of them in Interior Health. That put the number of active cases at just over 49-hundred, and 3 additional deaths brought the total since the pandemic began to 1,397. Outdoor gatherings of up to 10 people are now permitted, but there is no change for indoors yet.
