He was about 20 feet offshore hanging on to the ice when firefighters got to him. Chief Jason Brolund says two days of temperatures above 10 should leave no doubt that ice season on the valley-bottom lakes is over and people should stay off the remaining ice as it quickly disappears. The provincial government is providing funding for more licensed child care spaces in the central Okanagan. 37 spaces will be created in Kelowna while there will be 81 in Lake Country. Victoria says since July of 2018, 241 new spaces have been created in Kelowna.

Province urged to take action to prevent flooding

Share to Mar 2, 2021 3:21 PM Pete McIntyre The Okanagan Basin Water Board (OBWB) wants the province to do more to prevent flooding on Okanagan Lake. OBWB has fired off a letter to the province urgently requesting a review of how it manages Okanagan lake levels in an effort to address the worst effects of climate change. Municipal governments from across the Okanagan have sent letters of support for the review. “We’re very concerned about the current lake level management and the risks of extreme flooding in the future,” OBWB executive director Anna Warwick Sears explained in a press release. “This is a serious problem we are facing. This is not hype.”
