driving or excessive speed. preliminary investigation indicates that the driver may have fallen asleep when he left the roadway. he apparently works nights and may have fallen asleep. reporter: the state police major accident reconstruction team spent hours investigating the crash. police say all three workers were wearing reflective safety vests, but investigators say sadly the crash is an example of danger highway workers face, especially in light of the increased number of roadside work sites. it s an ongoing issue with the state highway administration, with police trying to protect these individuals and we know that highway work zones, whether it s an actual construction zone or it s maintenance employees trying to keep our highways beautiful in maryland, they re at risk and it s something we re continuing to urge motorists to be aware of. reporter: so far that driver has not been charged. we re told police are consulting with the charles county states attorney abou
