The state is also expanding its efforts to target those who don’t have the resources that, to date, have proved necessary to get a vaccine in California: cars, reliable internet access, paid sick leave and trusted medical providers. Officials are coordinating free transportation, setting up kiosks outside high-traffic areas such as malls and train stations, and opening more clinics for walk-in appointments.
A Panorama High School senior is one of only four students to receive an Iowa Scholarship for the Arts to support their education this fall. Ruby Hummel of Yale has received the prestigious $2,500 award from the Iowa Arts Council, which is a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs. Hummel says she was inspired by her teachers and her peers and wants to continue to perform while studying to become a music educator at Drake University in Des Moines.
