Mart Mägi, CEO of the state-owned postal company Omniva and a passionate stamp collector, says that newspapers are no longer read to learn the news; therefore the canceling of one home delivery day is hardly a tragedy.
Wednesday was the last day of operations for eight Omniva postal service points in Saaremaa, and 45 mailboxes throughout the island are slated to be removed in the near future as well. By this fall, Eesti Post intends to cut the number of post offices and postal service points across Estonia to 182.
By November 1, national mail carrier Omniva will reduce the number of post offices and postal service points in Estonia from 256 to 182. CEO Mart Mägi said that parcel terminals and the possibility of summoning a mail carrier should help make up for it.
