By November 1, national mail carrier Omniva will reduce the number of post offices and postal service points in Estonia from 256 to 182. CEO Mart Mägi said that parcel terminals and the possibility of summoning a mail carrier should help make up for it.
There are nearly 800 package terminals currently in operation across Estonia which receive some one million packages a month. While competition is fierce, package service providers confirm that no lockers anywhere are collecting dust and that they are planning to expand their terminal network even further.
Customers in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania ordering from online retail giant AliExpress now have the option of having their orders sent directly to their nearest Omniva package terminal free of additional charge.
Omniva Group's turnover and profit for the first three months of 2022 fell short of expectations, with the result affected by the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in late February as well as rising energy and fuel prices, the Estonian-based international logistics company said on Monday.
