GREATER NOIDA: The Noida International Airport project is fast gaining momentum.
The subsidiary of Zurich AG, appointed to develop the greenfield airport, on Monday floated tenders to commence construction work.
The company, Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), has begun the process of selecting the contractors for engineering and construction of the terminal building.
Last week ,the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) initiated the process of empanelling agencies which will manage, organise and execute big-ticket events on its behalf. While the date of the foundation stone laying ceremony is yet to be finalised, sources revealed that an agreement has been reached between the two sides to get things going on the ground. “We expect that the project-affected people will start shifting to Jewar Bangar by mid-June. Post that, construction work can start,” an Authority official told TOI.

NOIDA: Mithilesh Kumar, a father of four, had saved Rs 2 lakh in cash for the May wedding of his eldest daughter but he lost all his savings as well as some gold and other household items in the fire that broke out in the slum cluster of Behlolpur.
A scrap collector, Mithilesh has lost senses and is hurling abuses at the mediapersons and the politicians and asking who will return his savings. He is among the 1,000-old people of 166 families who have been rendered homeless in the massive blaze that engulfed the slum cluster on Sunday afternoon.
Noida/Ghaziabad: Both districts recorded their highest single-day Covid tally for this year on Monday. While Ghaziabad reported 187 fresh cases, in Gautam Budh Nagar, the figure was 239. Ghaziabad also reported one death. According to officials, a 54-year-old woman from Lal Kuan, who was admitted to Santosh Hospital on April 8, passed away on Sunday. She had hypertension and diabetes. This is the second death in Ghaziabad this month and the toll is now 104. The total number of cases in the district stands at 28,377.
About 1,055 cases have been detected since April 1, officials said. Currently there are 926 active cases and 441 people are recovering at home.
Noida: With the number of Covid cases rising in the district, the administration has ramped up surveillance and sanitisation drives in containment zones, especially in areas from where higher number of cases are being reported. Officials said that more teams are being added to intensify surveillance in those areas. The administration had sought extra staff members from the Noida Authority, the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority and the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority.
District magistrate Suhas LY said that the local authorities have sent additional staff. “Their training has started. We will be sending more teams to the containment zones,” he said.
