In the spring of 1975, Sobhraj met Canadian medical secretary Marie-Andrée Leclerc (Jenna Coleman).
Leclerc soon became his main accomplice in many of his scams but had denied being aware of any killings.
In July 1976 in New Delhi, Sobhraj and Leclerc alongside Barbara Smith and Mary Ellen Eather tricked a group of French students into accepting them as tour guides.
Sobhraj then drugged the group, which took effect faster than anticipated and when some of the students realised what was happening to their peers, they overpowered Sobhraj and called the police.
Two years later, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison in India alongside Leclerc.

Jenna plays Marie-Andrée Leclerc, who is besotted with her lover, serial killer Charles Sobhraj (Tahar Rahim), and helps him carry out his crimes.
The new BBC drama depicts the true story of Sobhraj’s reign of terror as he killed countless travellers in Thailand, Nepal and India during the 1970s, drugging them and often stealing their identities.

BLACK Narcissus viewers were left horrified tonight after Sister Ruth plummeted to her death after fighting with Sister Clodagh.
The final episode of the three-part mini-series aired tonight, and saw the underlying tensions between the two nuns reach boiling point.

Sister Clodagh (Gemma Arterton) had tried to get her priest to take Sister Ruth home, claiming the new convent in the Himalayas that they had set up was making her unwell.

The Serpent follows serial killer Charles Sobhraj, who is believed to be responsible for over a dozen murders committed in 1970s Asia. The eight-part series has been captivating viewers since its launch in the new year when it was also dropped on BBC iPlayer as a boxset. The Serpent is currently airing on the BBC as a biopic of serial killer Charles Sobhraj s (played by Tahar Rahim) life. The show looks at the French criminal’s origins right up until his arrest in 1976 and stars Jenna Coleman as his associate Marie-Andrée Leclerc, Billy Howle as Herman Knippenberg and Ellie Bamber as Angela Knippenberg. The series will began on BBC One on New Year’s Day (January 1) but some viewers will be wondering how many episodes there are.
