On May 4th, voters in Monroe County will have an opportunity to vote on two issues that have tremendously impacted the community. The Monroe County Museum System and the Monroe County Intermediate School District have two separate millages on the ballot that have the ability to influence education in Monroe County.
We understand that ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ and there are several community members/partners who support the learning ecosystem in Monroe County. The Monroe County Museum System is an organization whose mission is to fuel and cultivate students’ curiosity about Monroe County’s rich and varied history through story and artifacts.

The Monroe/Lenawee County American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) Central Labor Council endorses the Monroe County Museum System’s millage on the May 4th, 2021 ballot.
The AFL-CIO has always valued education for not only children but learners of all ages. Cultural institutions such as the Monroe County Historical Museum System (MCMS) are important and foundational in a community, especially ones with such a long and deep heritage as this region. The museum is seeking to renew its current one-tenth of a mill levy for 10 years, along with a request to increase the millage by .05 to .15.

One of the most popular resources for researchers is the archives and obituary files located at the museum. The online obituary search maintained by the museum staff and volunteers remains one of the most popular of the services provided by the museum. City seeks consultant to facilitate Custer monument discussion
The City of Monroe is seeking an outside facilitator to guide further discussions regarding the future of its controversial Gen. George Armstrong Custer monument.
Council on Monday unanimously approved the issuance of a Request for Qualifications (RFQ), which states that the city is seeking a qualified individual or consulting firm “to engage in a community facilitation project related to General George Custer.”
Council hopes that this individual or firm will be able to help the community reach a consensus on the monument.
