Last Tuesday afternoon (April 12th), Galesburg Police responded to the area of South Henderson Street and Monmouth Boulevard about a suspicious incident. Dispatch received a call from an anonymous source that a red sedan was chasing another vehicle with "guns out", according to police reports. Police located the red sedan in the 1000 block of West Berrien Street. A male passenger took off running but police detained the other two males inside the car. The male that fled, identified as 20-year-old Christopher Babers of Galesburg was almost immediately detained shortly after. During a search of the vehicle, officers located a Glock 19 9mm handgun, a .357 revolver, a fully-loaded extended magazine, cannabis, and $260 in cash. The Glock had one round of ammunition in the chamber. The Grand Avenue reconstruction project in Galesburg is scheduled tentatively for 2024. Wayne Carl, the city's Director of Public Works says that an environmental study has to be conducted first and some right-of-way land has to be purchased first. Carl told WGIL on Friday that this year, the Illinois Department of Transportation will be doing some patching work on Grand Avenue, to hopefully make the wait for reconstruction easier on drivers. "We have an agreement where we will fill the potholes, strip it, plow it, and salt it for the state. But if it's more major than that, it is their responsibility. So, this year the state will be coming in and doing a patching project on that same section of Main Street and also Grand Avenue. So, hopefully, it'll get a little bit better to get us to that 2024 date." Galesburg Police on Saturday, December 18th, just after 1:00 pm, were dispatched to the area of South and Monmouth Boulevard for reports of an accident involving a subject attempting to flee the scene. Officers arrived at the area and observed a vehicle being driven by 26-year old Luz Carillo of Galesburg on South Henderson Street in the wrong lane of traffic. Officers are familiar with Carillo and had received numerous calls regarding her the previous night. She was driving less than 20 miles per hour. But officers also received reports of her speeding in the area as well. Police eventually pulled alongside her vehicle and yelled for her to stop and pull into a parking lot and Carillo complied. It's unclear why she was driving - officers knew that Carillo was experiencing some mental stress and knew her to not have a valid driver's license.
