Galesburg man charged with child endangerment after found passed out behind the wheel

Wednesday, April 27th, just after 6:00pm, Galesburg Police responded to the 1000 block of West Berrien Street in reference to an overdose. Officers met with a female who said she discovered two young children - a four year old and a one year old - were playing in the street unsupervised. Neither child had shoes on, and the one-year old didn't have a diaper on, which the neighbor provided one. The four-year old directed the woman over to their home where she discovered a man passed out in the driver's seat of a truck parked in the garage. Galesburg Fire Personnel arrived and administered a dose of Narcan for 21-year old Austyn Lee Derham of Galesburg. Derham was transported to OSF St. Mary's Medical Center. Police spoke with the children's mother and with Derham's mother who both admitted that he is a drug user. Derham was eventually transported to the Knox County Jail. Galesburg woman arrested after driving off in someone s vehicle

Galesburg Police on Saturday, December 18th, just after 1:00 pm, were dispatched to the area of South and Monmouth Boulevard for reports of an accident involving a subject attempting to flee the scene. Officers arrived at the area and observed a vehicle being driven by 26-year old Luz Carillo of Galesburg on South Henderson Street in the wrong lane of traffic. Officers are familiar with Carillo and had received numerous calls regarding her the previous night. She was driving less than 20 miles per hour. But officers also received reports of her speeding in the area as well. Police eventually pulled alongside her vehicle and yelled for her to stop and pull into a parking lot and Carillo complied. It's unclear why she was driving - officers knew that Carillo was experiencing some mental stress and knew her to not have a valid driver's license. GPD respond to a dog being struck by gunfire

December 23, 2020 Thursday, December 17th, Galesburg Police responded to the 1000 block of West Berrien Street in reference to a gunshot. Police had received a call from the 1000 block of West Brooks Street where they were told a dog had been struck by gunfire. Police met with the resident there who told police she let her dogs out and after she heard a gunshot, she let her dogs back in. According to police reports, she discovered a bullet hole in the wood siding of her home. When her Doberman Pinscher came inside, a one-inch bloody wound was discovered near the dog’s stomach. The Knox County Humane Society was notified as well as the Knoxville Veterinary Clinic where doctors told the pet owner the wound was not life-threatening. GPD was notified of a large crowd arguing outside the Berrien Housing but the group had departed by the time police arrived. The investigation is ongoing.
