STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. A father who shot his adult son in a domestic dispute. An unassuming mother caught in the crossfire of a gang-related feud. A couple slaughtered in what authorities indicated was a botched robbery.
Police have so far responded to the most homicides on Staten Island this year since 2016, while experts on all sides of the issue have weighed in on the factors that appear to be driving the disturbing trend.

A 25-year-old man faces multiple charges after allegedly gunning down a 34-year-old man who was attending a New Brighton memorial for a shooting victim in September.
Tyler Carmon, 25, a resident of the 500 block of Manor Road in Castleton Corners, was charged Thursday with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a firearm, according to a statement from the NYPD.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. The Staten Island man charged in the stabbing death of his longterm girlfriend, Natasha Colon, is being held without bail, amid questions swirling in regard to what some describe as a tumultuous history at the couple’s Tompkinsville home.
Prosecutors on Thursday charged Milton Bolton, 39, with second-degree murder and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the incident Tuesday night on Montgomery Avenue.
EMTs and police responded at about 8:45 p.m. to an apartment at the residence, after Bolton allegedly called 911 to report the incident, a law enforcement source told the Advance/SILive.com

Milton Bolton, 39, was charged with murder in connection with the incident, according to an NYPD spokesman.
Officers responded at about 8:45 p.m. to an apartment inside a multi-family building on Montgomery Avenue, where they discovered Natasha Colon, 38, unconscious and unresponsive.
Bolton is Colon’s boyfriend, according to a law enforcement source.
Colon, a Brooklyn native who relocated to the North Shore more than a decade ago, had suffered a laceration to the neck, police said.
