SAMPLER: Birthday party held for Yorkshire
Mary Wenzel
For Kizzy, the Yorkshire dog, it was Paw-ty Time on May 2 as she was treated to a birthday party hosted by her “Mom,” Neusa Brown. Born in March seven years ago, Kizzy was dressed in her party best as friends gathered to wish her well. The festivities were held in the Courtyard at 240 Main St., with hungry guests dining on pizza and snacks as well as two birthday cakes. The tables were decorated for the occasion. Many guests brought birthday cards for Kizzy. Dogs are definitely members of the family and Neusa invited family members to join with friends for the celebration. The day was a fun time for the dog’s Mom and it was a great way for guests to spend a spring afternoon.

A bucket brigade, created by the youth of St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Marlborough, was formed to collect and fill 40 buckets with essential cleaning supplies for the clients of the Hudson-based Fresh Start Furniture Bank. Not only the youth and their families, but also other parishioners of St. Stephen Lutheran Church chipped in and dropped off cash donations, along with supplies including paper towels, all surface cleaner, toilet brushes and cleaners, dishwasher soap, glass cleaner and disinfectant wipes. Pleased to be able to gather, though distanced and masked, a dozen teens put together the buckets of cleaning supplies over two recent Saturdays. Youth leader Sarah Maston said 12 youth worked each weekend. The full buckets will be given as housewarming gifts to the Fresh Start clients.

Marlborough’s Silly String law once again made the news when Chronicle, a WCVB-TV news magazine, traveled to the city to conduct research on unusual town and city regulations and ordinances across the state of Massachusetts.
Marlborough Mayor Arthur Vigeant addressed the Chronicle cameras in front of the Marlborough City Hall and explained that Silly String became a nuisance during one of the city’s annual Labor Day parades.
“It’s my understanding that there were brand new cruisers that were purchased by the city and some kids hit them with Silly String and damaged the new paint,” said Vigeant.
