Master planning process begins for Central site

Created: July 14, 2021 06:43 PM With the Duluth School Board s Tuesday night sign-off on a purchase agreement, Saturday Properties is beginning to put together a master plan for the former Central High School site.  Saturday Properties is based in the Twin Cities. The firm is also redeveloping Historic Old Central High School downtown. According to Development Director Mark Laverty, they are planning mixed-use housing off of Central Entrance. He said staff will work with the Duluth School Board to find uses that best serve the community. St. Louis Park s Saturday Properties, operating as Saturday Central Heights, entered into a purchasing agreement Tuesday for the front 55 acres of 800 E. Central Entrance. It s the same developer that in October agreed to purchase Historic Old Central High School, the 129-year-old former high school that has been school district offices and alternative education classrooms in recent years, for $3 million.

Duluth School Board approves sale of Central High School for $7.4 million Saturday Properties is purchasing Central High School, at 800 Central Entrance, to build mixed housing. Project manager Mark Laverty said final plans for the space are still being developed. 11:15 am, Jul. 14, 2021 × Central High School, located at 800 Central Entrance, has finally been sold, 10 years after the school closed for good. The high school building will be demolished for $2 million by the district. The secondary technical center, shown left of the track, will remain with the hope of reusing it.
