With the Duluth School Board s Tuesday night sign-off on a purchase agreement, Saturday Properties is beginning to put together a master plan for the former Central High School site.
Saturday Properties is based in the Twin Cities. The firm is also redeveloping Historic Old Central High School downtown.
According to Development Director Mark Laverty, they are planning mixed-use housing off of Central Entrance. He said staff will work with the Duluth School Board to find uses that best serve the community.

Once a master plan is put together, a team will put on open houses for the public to see it and give feedback.

DULUTH, Minn. The Duluth School Board approved the sale of Central High School to Saturday Central Heights, LLC on Tuesday for $7.4 million.
During a special meeting, the board unanimously signed off of selling 52 or more acres to the developer.
The school district has been trying to sell the property for the past 11 years after the school closed.
The city of Duluth will help with finalizing the sale and property redevelopment.
ISD 709 will keep the backside of the property.
“I am very pleased that the district is moving forward in partnership with Saturday Central Heights regarding this property agreement,” John Magas, the ISD 709 superintendent, said in a press release. “It will be helpful in providing additional resources to the students and families of the district, and will be a wonderful development opportunity for the City of Duluth.

DULUTH – The former Duluth Central High School, which last graduated a class in 2011, is finally set to be sold for $7.4 million, about half its original asking price from a decade ago.
St. Louis Park s Saturday Properties, operating as Saturday Central Heights, entered into a purchasing agreement Tuesday for the front 55 acres of 800 E. Central Entrance. It s the same developer that in October agreed to purchase Historic Old Central High School, the 129-year-old former high school that has been school district offices and alternative education classrooms in recent years, for $3 million.
