Clemson Shuts Out Radford, Advances to NCAA Tournament Second Round

CLEMSON, S.C. – Behind two second-half goals, No. 7 Clemson women’s soccer downed Radford, 2-0, to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Seniors Makenna Morris and Caroline Conti netted both goals for the Tigers, who earned their 14th shutout of the season in front of 1,755 fans at Historic Riggs FIeld.  “We wanted to come out and dominate the game, Radford came in with a defensive plan and they were trying to keep the game close. The hardest thing to do in a game is score and then it’s even harder when they put numbers back there,” Head Coach Eddie Radwanski said. “We got two goals and the name of the game is to win so we got the win, we got the shutout and played well.”  The Tigers came out strong in the first half with the defensive line allowing zero scoring opportunities for the Highlanders as Radford wrapped up the first 45 with no shots. Mackiewicz Named 2023 ACC Goalkeeper of the Year, Nine Tigers Earn All-Conference Honors

CLEMSON, S.C. – After setting the new all-time Clemson record for single-season shutouts with 13, Halle Mackiewicz has been named the ACC Goalkeeper of the Year for the first time in her career. Clemson also had nine Tigers named throughout the First Team All-ACC, Third Team All-ACC and the All-Freshman Team, the conference announced on Wednesday. Lyles, Morris Named ACC Co-Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week

CLEMSON, S.C. – For the first time in school history, two Clemson Tigers have earned weekly honors in the same week as Renee Lyles has been named ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week and Makenna Morris was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday. This marks the first time in Clemson history that two Tigers have earned both an ACC offensive and defensive weekly honor in the same week. Earning her first weekly honor of her career, Lyles is coming off a successful week as she recorded a brace against Louisville and picked up an assist on the lone-goal of the game against No. 18 Pittsburgh. Against the Cardinals, Lyles netted the first and last goal of the game to open up scoring and ultimately lead the Tigers to a 3-0 win. Lyles has recorded 13 points so far this season, tying her for fourth best on the team in points. CLEMSON, S.C. – On an afternoon where Clemson celebrated seniors Halle Mackiewicz, Makenna Morris and Megan Bornkamp, No. 8 Clemson outlasted No. 18 Pitt, 1-0, led by the three seniors. The win moves the Tigers to 13-1-3 on the year, 7-1-1 in ACC play, while the loss drops the Panthers to 12-4-1 and 5-2-1 in ACC play. “To win on Senior Day, it’s just special and we have such a great group of kids, a wonderful group of seniors so the team was really determined to send them out on a winning note on Senior Day,” Head Coach Eddie Radwanski said. “This was a very good game, Pitt is an excellent team and we were fortunate enough to score the goal and get the win.”  Morris scored the lone goal of the match, her eighth of the year and fourth game-winner of the season.
