No one from the public had any questions concerning the plan, which the Southeast Iowa Regional Planning Commission researched and wrote over the past couple of years. The Louisa County Planning and Zoning Commission approved a recommendation to accept the plan at its June 9 meeting.
LCPZC members indicated earlier they were concerned about the public apathy to the plan, but had held out hope this would change when a public hearing was held and they considered a final recommendation for the supervisors. No one showed.
The board was informed that the County Themes portion of the plan is most important as it covers 16 goals involving economic prosperity; embracing community; resilient infrastructure and services; quality housing; and quality of life.
SEIRPC Assistant Director Zach James told the LCPZC it normally does not take nearly two years to complete comprehensive plan updates, but a combination of previously identified issues ranging from the pandemic to public input apathy had slowed the process.
