Joshua Yorke, apprentice and engineering safety co-ordinator at Amazon Durham, explained why they have robots on the site. He said: Beyond the gates, and into the field, we have these pods which hold all of our items, and the robots that you can see are called drives. They basically go around and pick up the pods, bringing the products to the stations ready to be picked by an associate.

Amazon team in Gourock donate £5k to Inverclyde Shed charity

A GRASSROOTS charity has firmly planted its place in the community after receiving a four-figure cash boost from an online retail giant. Social inclusion charity Inverclyde Shed have benefited from a £5,000 windfall from the Amazon fulfilment centre in Gourock. The Faulds Park team handed over the sum to help the group support the community during the continuing period of uncertainty due to Covid-19. The Inverclyde Shed team will use the funds to continue their work alleviating loneliness. Chairperson Bruce Newlands told of his delight over the donation. He said: Like all charities, our services have never been needed more than they are now.

Inverclyde s local hospice has received a cash windfall from a Gourock based online retail giant. Ardgowan Hospice were gifted £1,700 by the Amazon team at Faulds Park to replace the tiles at the front entrance of the in-patient unit on Nelson Street. Lorna Sharples, Site Leader at Gourock, said: Ardgowan Hospice is a charity that’s been close to our hearts for a long time here at Amazon in Gourock. We are so pleased to offer another donation of £1,700 to the charity as it navigates the struggles of COVID-19 restrictions. The compassionate place of care have been supported by Amazon for numerous years, with the most recent donation providing stock for the hospice s charity shops in Inverclyde.
