Joshua Yorke, apprentice and engineering safety co-ordinator at Amazon Durham, explained why they have robots on the site. He said: Beyond the gates, and into the field, we have these pods which hold all of our items, and the robots that you can see are called drives. They basically go around and pick up the pods, bringing the products to the stations ready to be picked by an associate.

A GRASSROOTS charity has firmly planted its place in the community after receiving a four-figure cash boost from an online retail giant. Social inclusion charity Inverclyde Shed have benefited from a £5,000 windfall from the Amazon fulfilment centre in Gourock. The Faulds Park team handed over the sum to help the group support the community during the continuing period of uncertainty due to Covid-19. The Inverclyde Shed team will use the funds to continue their work alleviating loneliness. Chairperson Bruce Newlands told of his delight over the donation. He said: Like all charities, our services have never been needed more than they are now.
