Clemson Improves to Sixth Place after Two Rounds of Linger Longer Invitational

Clemson, S.C. Jonathan Nielsen had a one-under-par 71 and Andrew Swanson added an even-par 72 to lead Clemson to a 291 team score and an improvement to sixth place after two rounds of the Linger Longer Invitational on Monday.  The 16 teams will conclude the tournament on Tuesday at the Great Waters Golf Club in Eatonton, Ga. Clemson improved to sixth place with the three-over-par  team score and are just two shots behind fifth place Chattanooga.   Alabama leads the tournament with a 570, while Georgia is one shot back. Clemson played the front nine on Monday in five-over-par, then played the back nine in two-under-par.  The Tigers posted the sixth best score of the day, including scoring 20 shots better than 16th ranked Virginia.    For the second straight day the average score for the 91 players was over 75. Nielsen’s 71 was his eighth under-par round of the year and included three birdies and two bogeys.  He is in a tie for 19th place after two rounds with a 146 score

Clemson in Seventh Place after First Round of Linger Longer

Clemson, SC Sophomore Kian Rose had his best round of the spring in firing a two-under-par 70 on a day when the average score was 75.2 to lead Clemson in the first round of the Linger Longer Invitational at Great Waters Golf Club in Eatonton, Ga.  The 16-teams in the field will play the second round on Monday with the third and final round on Tuesday.Clemson had a team score of seven-over-par 295.   Alabama and Georgia are tied for first at five-under-par 283, while number-one ranked Vanderbilt is in third place at 286.   Virginia is fourth at 287 and Georgia Tech is fifth at 292.  Arkansas is sixth at 294, just one shot ahead of the Tigers.Rose, Clemson’s top player in the fall, has been limited by a wrist injury in the spring, but he played well one Sunday with five birdies on is way to his 70.  The native of South Africa played the par four holes in three-under-par, tied for the best in the 91-player field.   Rose is in a tie for eighth place individually after the

Tigers Return to Course at Linger Longer

Clemson, SC Clemson will return to the course Sunday, March 19 at the 54-hole Linger Longer Invitational at the Great Waters Golf Club in Eatonton, Ga.   The Tigers will be one of 16 teams in the field that includes seven teams from the ACC and the SEC. The 16 teams will play 18 holes a day, Sunday through Tuesday, March 19-21 on the par 72 course that measures 7,436 yards. The field is led by top ranked Vanderbilt, who has three of the top 13 players in the nation according to the latest Golfstat rankings.   Georgia Tech (7th),  Virginia (16), Alabama (18) and Georgia (24) are the other top 25 teams in the field according to at least one of the major computer rankings. Also in the field are Arkansas, Mercer, Augusta, Charlotte, Chattanooga, UNG Greensboro, South Alabama, South Florida, Wofford and host school Kennessaw State.
