The newly-elected members of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) in Kargil have taken oath, with Dr Jaffar Akhone proposed as the chief executive councillor. The National Conference and Congress formed the council after winning 22 seats out of 26. The two parties have formed an agenda of alliance to work together for the betterment of the people of Kargil. They have pledged to provide a strong and sustainable council that works in the interest of the people.
SRINAGAR: In a significant development in the region of Kargil, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) has elected Dr Jaffar Akhone as the new Chief Executive Councillor for the 5th Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil.
The NC and Congress had entered into a pre and post poll alliance in Kargil and formed the council after winning 22 seats - 12 by NC and 10 by Congress - out of the 26 seats. BJP won two seats while two others were won by the independent candidates. The 5th LAHDC elections were held on October 4, in which voter turnout of 77.61% was registered.
