Beach Volleyball Wins Final Match of the Weekend

Deland, Fla. – The fourth-ranked Seminoles (9-2) finished the weekend 2-1 after defeating No. 18 Stetson 3–2 on a chilly Sunday morning. FSU 3, Stetson 2 Florida State continues their perfect dominance over Stetson, improving their series lead to 17-0. Four of the five courts went to a tie-breaking third set during today’s match. Raelyn White and Kate Privett went undefeated on the weekend on court five. The pair defeated Stetson quickly 21-16 in the first set before falling in the second set 21-19. The pair came back and won the third set 15-11. Jordan Polo and Caitlin Moon fought back on court four after an early deficit to win their match in three sets. The pair dropped the first set 21-18 before winning the next two 21-13, 15-13. The match-clinching point was provided by Alaina Chacon and Madison Fitzpatrick on court two. May 4, 2021 Beach Volleyball Has Three Pairs Earn AVCA Top Flight Honors TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is pleased to reveal the third annual class of AVCA Top Flight award winners. Introduced in 2018, this awards program is designed to recognize excellence in collegiate beach volleyball from all over the country and across all flights. The Seminole pairings of Keara Rutz/Torrey Van Winden, Maddie Anderson/Sara Putt and Jenna Johnson/Kate Privett all earned recognition from the AVCA on Tuesday. In order for a pair to be eligible for the award, two athletes must compete in at least 15 matches together and at a specific flight number. Should that pair win at least 75% of their matches – regardless of the overall result of the dual – those athletes will achieve “Top Flight” status.

Florida State Beach Volleyball Wins its Fifth straight CCSA Title HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The third-ranked Florida State beach volleyball team (32-4) earned its fifth straight CCSA Title on Sunday afternoon with its second win over LSU (25-7) in two days, 3-2. “I am super proud of our team,” said head coach Brooke Niles. “We knew LSU was going to come out strong and play use really tough. To come out like that and take every punch that was thrown at us and keep fighting on every court until the last point, I am really proud of them. To win the fifth straight conference title is unbelievable. We came here with a goal of winning and competing and we did a really good job of that this weekend.”

Photo: Bret Clein April 24, 2021 - by Bret Clein Beach Advances to the CCSA Championship With a 4-1 Win Over LSU HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The third-ranked Florida State beach volleyball team (31-4) continued their winning ways at the CCSA Tournament with a 4-1 win over LSU (24-6), improving their record to 25-0 all-time at the conference tournament. It was a highly contested match across the board as three of the five courts went to three sets and only one set was won by more than five points. Florida State jumped out early to take three of the five first sets on courts two, four and five. Sara Putt and Raelyn White converted that into the only straight-set win of the afternoon for the Seminoles on court four. They took an early 6-3 lead in the first set and maintained it on their way to a 21-17 first set win. Putt and White jumped out to a 6-4 lead in the second and expanded that to an 18-11 lead before

April 23, 2021 - by Bret Clein Beach advances to semifinals with a 4-1 win over South Carolina HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The third-ranked Florida State beach volleyball team (30-4) earned a 4-1 win over No. 17 South Carolina (22-8) on Friday night to advance to the semifinals of the CCSA Championship. The Seminoles jumped out to early leads on courts two through four turning all four of them into first sets wins. Court one was back and forth with Torrey Van Winden and Keara Rutz trailing 14-13. They went on to take the first set 21-16 after winning eight of the final 10 points. The second sets were a little bit closer but the Noles would win four of them to take a 4-0 lead. Alaina Chacon and Maddie Anderson were the first to finish for the Garnet and Gold as they took court two 21-16, 21-10. Payton Caffrey and Molly McBain gave Florida State a 2-0 lead not too long after with a 21-17, 21-19 win on court three.
