Harbormen found a way to make the spring season feel as normal as possible
Wicked Local
If there’s anyone who deserves a pat on the back and a little time to rest, relax and re-charge right now it’s your local high school athletic director. Things have been different this school year, in some cases very different, but the AD’s were the steady hand that navigated coaches and players alike through four seasons of athletics.
While the spring season looked almost normal with masks off for the most part and fans back in the stands, still fresh in everyone’s minds were the times of the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic when volleyballs were changed out and sanitized after every rally, when everyone wore a mask and when heading a soccer ball was strictly forbidden, going against every instinct a player has had ingrained in their heads since they played in Tiny Tots.
It’s like they say. Better late than never.
Football players, winter track and field athletes, fall dance and cheerleading squad members, and participants in the unified basketball program all have something in common. All of them had their normal seasons canceled by the MIAA over COVID concerns. And now, for this year and this year only, they all began pre-season practices this week for the new Fall II athletic season.
“It was nice to see students outside and doing things once again,” Plymouth North Athletic Director Justin Domingos said. “We’ve got more than 200 athletes signed up to compete, so the kids are taking advantage of the fourth athletic season.”
