This is not just the inability of so many workers to find housing in our city today, but also how the income inequality that we have created in the city , is affecting every decision that we make. We keep acting as though the housing crisis is entirely separate from the growth of income inequality. Going back to that research that the Directors Team produce. In 1990, folks that made over 200,000 made up 9 of the city residents. Today they make over 27 of city residents, adjusted for inflation. That is a dramatic change that affects how housing crisis are affected. It affects displacement, it affects land costs, a city that sees land costs going up by 23 every year. That is where i would put my money. It affects the rate of construction. Right now, we build for that top 27 . We built actually for the top 10 earn more than 200,000. When that limit is reached, if you look at all of the newspaper articles right now, building slows down. Until we address that, we are not going to solve this
Flexible retail concerns me. I dont think businesses should be open past 11 00 p. M. In the neighborhood. That was a recent addition. I would like to look out for the interests of the neighborhood when considering the nature of the retail. Related to that we need to consider if this is a Retail Destination clogged with traffic with people coming to shop. Is that appropriate for the neighborhood . The proposed lengths of time for the project. I have a 6 yearold daughter. When i saw 15 yearold timeframe my daughter will be a junior in college when this is finished. That is mind bo mindboggling. 15 years of disruption to the neighborhood for that amount of time, i would argue this is not a fair or equitable or just or project to the neighbors currently living there. Lack of affordable is a justice and equity issue. We cant solve that in a way that is just or equitable to the People Living in the neighborhood. Time for the inbound seven bus at 3 30 a. M. , takes 40 minutes to get to beale. The 942 bus, 40 minutes later. Those are peak travel commute times. Those minutes are real and they are in the sf mta 30day rapid schedule available online. More to that point of the 20 minutes being saved to the average commuter. That bus arrived in 30 minutes for those buses. I dont think you are going to take 30 off of that travel time.
