GILBERT, Ariz. - A Gilbert Police officer continues to recover after he was severely injured last week during a
violent pursuit that resulted in the death of a Chandler police officer.
Officer Rico Aranda, 27, sustained a serious head injury after he was hit by a suspect driving a stolen car on April 29.
Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb said the pursuit began when a deputy tried to pull over a speeding vehicle and reported he d been shot at.

Hundreds of people in the Chandler community showed their support for the family of Officer Christopher Farrar, who was killed in the line of duty. A Gilbert Police Department officer, Rico Aranda, was also directly hit, and he remains hospitalized in critical condition.
CHANDLER, Ariz. - Hundreds of people in the Chandler community showed their support for the family of Officer Christopher Farrar, who was killed in the line of duty.
According to court documents, police say the suspect was driving a stolen car and while trying to evade capture, he crashed into Officer Farrar, then kept driving. Even as several officers opened fire on the suspect, he continued to accelerate in their direction.

CHANDLER, Ariz. - The public will have a chance to honor fallen Chandler Police Officer Christopher Farrar, the department announced just days after his death on April 29.

A memorial service will be held the following day on May 8 at Compass Christian Church. It will begin at 9 a.m. The memorial service will be open to the public; however, space is limited, the department said.
$3M bond set for Arizona man accused in deadly police chase
GILBERT, Ariz. (AP) A $3 million bond has been set for a man arrested on suspicion of leading police on a high-speed vehicle chase in metro Phoenix last week in which an officer was killed and another was seriously injured.
Authorities said 25-year-old Jonathan Altland Jr. led the chase Thursday night that ended at a Gilbert car dealership where Chandler Officer Christopher Farrar was fatally injured and Gilbert Officer Rico Aranda suffered a head injury.
Authorities said the pursuit began near Eloy when Altland opened fire on the vehicle of a Pinal County sheriff’s deputy who tried to pull over Altland for speeding in a pickup truck that was later discovered to be stolen.

CHANDLER, AZ â People around the community are stepping up to remember the officer killed at the end of a pursuit in Gilbert last week and help the family he left behind.
On Monday, May 3, Cobblestone Auto Spa near Alma School and Germann roads is hosting a fundraiser car wash. All donations will go toward Officer Farrar s memorial fund.
