Gilbert Police Officer Rico Aranda suffered a serious head injury in the incident, according to The Associated Press.
A funeral service for Farrar began Saturday at 9 a.m. local time and was streamed live on the department s Facebook page.
Chandler Police Chief Sean Duggan praised his colleague s passion for service and called him the consummate team player.

Hundreds of people in the Chandler community showed their support for the family of Officer Christopher Farrar, who was killed in the line of duty. A Gilbert Police Department officer, Rico Aranda, was also directly hit, and he remains hospitalized in critical condition.

According to court documents, police say the suspect was driving a stolen car and while trying to evade capture, he crashed into Officer Farrar, then kept driving. Even as several officers opened fire on the suspect, he continued to accelerate in their direction.
$3M bond set for Arizona man accused in deadly police chase
GILBERT, Ariz. (AP) A $3 million bond has been set for a man arrested on suspicion of leading police on a high-speed vehicle chase in metro Phoenix last week in which an officer was killed and another was seriously injured.
Authorities said 25-year-old Jonathan Altland Jr. led the chase Thursday night that ended at a Gilbert car dealership where Chandler Officer Christopher Farrar was fatally injured and Gilbert Officer Rico Aranda suffered a head injury.
Authorities said the pursuit began near Eloy when Altland opened fire on the vehicle of a Pinal County sheriff’s deputy who tried to pull over Altland for speeding in a pickup truck that was later discovered to be stolen.

GILBERT, Arizona (AP) Authorities say a man accused of using a stolen pickup truck to lead a deadly police chase in Pinal and Maricopa counties last week had prior convictions for vehicle theft and fleeing from law enforcement.
Jonathan Altland Jr. was previously convicted in Pinal County of unlawful means of transportation, drug paraphernalia and unlawful flight from a law enforcement officer, Gilbert police said.
Authorities say Altland led a chase Thursday that ended at a Gilbert car dealership where Chandler Officer Christopher Farrar was fatally injured and Gilbert Officer Rico Aranda suffered a head injury.
