PORTLAND, Ore. Left-wing activists apparently punched Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler while he was dining downtown on Wednesday, according to reports.
A group started heckling Wheeler as he sat in Café Nell’s outdoor dining area with a dinner companion on Wednesday, The Oregonian reported, citing mayoral spokesman Jim Middaugh.
The mayor tried to ignore the invading agitators, but they eventually “pushed their way past restaurant employees” and confronted him, Middaugh said.
When Wheeler asked the people to leave, “one member of the group started swatting at the mayor and made physical contact with him,” the spokesman added.

Wheeler was five minutes into a dinner at Cafe Nell with a friend when a small crowd began yelling obscenities at him and soon pushed their way into the outdoor tented area where he was seated, according to Jim Middaugh, the mayor s communications director, who was briefed by the mayor on the incident.
“Are you comfortable?” the protester asked in the video. “I think you need to do your job as a f -ing mayor. I think you’re a disgrace. I think that everybody in this f -ing city thinks that you’re f -ing pathetic.”
“How old are you?” Mr. Wheeler asked the man. “I think you need to grow up.”
“You are going to be made to feel like the scum you are,” the man yelled.
One person punched Mr. Wheeler in the shoulder and then fled the scene, Portland Police told KATU, a local ABC affiliate. The reported contact was not captured in the video posted to Twitter, though Mr. Wheeler can be heard in another video posted by another anti-police account claiming that someone assaulted him, The Oregonian reported.
