Pamplin Media Group - Sources: Two Wheeler staffers leaving

May 24 2021 Two new staffers also joined the Portland mayor s office in top positions so far this year. Mayor Ted Wheeler s staff is changing again. Communication Director Jim Middaugh left two weeks ago to become executive director of the Multnomah County Drainage District. Its mission is to reduce flood risk by maintaining the county s levee system, manage drainage, and respond to emergencies. Before joining Wheeler s staff, Middaugh had been Metro s communication director and had worked at City Hall for former Commissioner Erik Sten. And Deputy Chief of Staff Sonia Schmanski is leaving this Friday, May 29. She had previously worked for the late Commissioner Nick Fish and said it was time to explore life outside City Hall.

May Day protests turn violent in Portland

May Day protests turn violent in Portland Christopher Eberhart For Dailymail.Com © Provided by Daily Mail MailOnline logo Portland descended into chaos again late Saturday and into Sunday even after the mayor had pledged earlier in the week to crack down on anarchist mobs and unmask them.  The mayor himself had received an apparent death threat in a voice-disguised, anonymous Twitter video Wednesday, just days after he promised to take our city back from violent rioters and hurt them a little bit. Two groups of radical protesters, who have throughout the past year represented Antifa and other far-left causes, were armed with weapons, body armor, shields and flares. The riots came as violent skirmishes occurred worldwide during so-called May Day protests in favor of worker s rights - but that descended into anarchist free-for-alls.
