Eighth Street house in Canisteo catches fire twice and collapses

Fires on consecutive days collapsed a two-story house at 21 Eighth St. in the village of Canisteo The Evening Tribune Investigators are attempting to determine how a Saturday morning fire that damaged a home in Canisteo roared back to life some 16 hours later and collapsed the house at 21 Eighth St. in the village. No injuries were reported from either of the blazes, and their causes are undetermined, authorities said. A Canisteo fire official said the homeowner, Walter L. Wade, called the fire department at about 9:40 a.m. Saturday to report the fire. “The homeowner was home. He heard a funny noise in the back part of the house, popping noises, and walked out of the house to see what it was. He saw the back part of the house on fire and called it in,” said Jeff Chase, Canisteo assistant fire chief.
