He was remembered today as a kind and descent man. He grew up in East New York where his childhood friends used a puerto rican expression meaning can of goodness to describe him, something they say still suited him today. The 40yearold leaves behind a wife and two teenage sons who were presented with memorial flag following todays service. That is a symbol of gratitude for the sacrifice their family made. as bart reveals a new move to examine its policing practices. good evening, everyone. we begin in fairfield. fire crews at the scene of a fire that spread to a motel. it started just off i-80 around 7:00 this evening. embers blew on to the roof of a motel six, catching it on fire. sending the hotel guests scrambling for safety. people were running around, smoke alarms went off just turned around, jumped in my clothes and there was smoke and embers, couldn t hardly see nothing. pretty scary for those hotel guests. guests have been moved to other hotels for tonight. in the east bay tonight, crews are checking for hotspots after a brushfire that broke out around 3:00 this afternoon. 20 mile an hour winds and dry conditions fuelled the flames. fire burned more than 120 acres before crews contained it this evening. making headlines tonight, has the bart police department improved since the much publicized shooting death of oscar brand? this is all happening the same we
time in more than a century, there is a new grade level in california schools. it is transitional kindergarten, preschool and kindergarten. this morning, the man behind the new law visited parents and teachers in san jose s oak grove school district. stephanie chuang spoke with him and some parents who say they couldn t be happier. stephanie, good morning. reporter: marla, good morning to you. that s right. the state senator came to this elementary school in san jose visiting a transitional kindergarten class that has 23 4-year-olds, very cute little ones, in their first day of class. both he and parents say this is a huge win academically for the kid and financially for the state and for parents. let s go find a bed. reporter: it s 4-year-old dylan s first day of school at george minor elementary, but this wouldn t have happened if it hadn t been for transitional kindergarten. we ve been, you know, able to put him in this program and at no cost to us, and so it s jus
want about the person. according to trevor tim, law enforcement agencies are asking for gps, contacts and other data and cell phone carriers like att and verizon are giving it away without your permission. there s actually what s called cell phone tower dumps where they re actually just going after one person but they end up getting information on everybody who had been around a cell phone tower during a certain amount of time. so even though they re only investigating one person, they now have information on hundreds or thousands of people. reporter: but why are cell phone carriers giving your information away without even a subpoena? we contacted att which declined to comment on our story but did send this letter to a lawmaker asking the same question. it said that customer privacy is important and it does not respond to law enforcement without going through the appropriate process. but the new york times says cell carriers responded to 1.3 million demands for subsc
