While rodeo athletes and stock contractors are busy racking up points to help propel them to the annual National Finals Rodeo in December in Las Vegas, the next generation of cowboys and cowgirls gathered at the Stampede Arena to take part in the Greeley Stampede Junior Rodeo.
Many of our Dayton Youth radio students come from active duty military families. They are affectionately known as military brats. And today's story is from one of those military brats.

The Twin Cedars summer sports teams won’t waste any time kicking off their 2021 season as the softball team has seven games in seven days and the Baseball squad has four games in five days.
Twin Cedars returns their top eight hitters from a year ago, with five of them posting batting averages over .400. Sabers Junior Grace Bailey is poised to lead the pitching staff again this year after a solid 2020 campaign that ended with a 16-6 record and a 1.43 ERA. Twin Cedars is hoping to avenge last year’s late season loss and Coach Zack Dunkin says they want to take the next step and make the trip to Fort Dodge and the state tournament this year.
There were three seniors on the Twin Cedars Boys Basketball Squad this season. Kade Dunkin scored the most points of the three at 10.9 points per game, while Brett Sedlock had 45 assists and grabbed 100 rebounds while Jace Nichols had one of the top three point shooting percentages on the team at 41-percent. Coach Blake McWilliams tells KNIA/KRLS Sports they all meant a lot to the program.
McWilliams:
“Kade Dunkin has been playing a lot for me, and Jace Nichols played a bigger role, and Bret Sedlock always put in the effort and made the right play.”
The three seniors led the Sabers to a 7-10 record this season.
As the regular season comes to an end, Twin Cedars is ready to give credit where credit is due. The Sabers will hold their senior night on Monday as Hartwik-Ladora-Victor comes to Bussey.
Among the players to be recognized include Sabers girls Chloe Swank and Jenna Hastings as well as the trio of Jace Nichols, Kade Dunkin, and Brett Sedlock for the boys team.
Girls Head Coach Trent Verwers says that he has always been impressed with the efforts of his two elder players during his tenure.
“This group of seniors, we only have two. Chloe Swank and Jenna Hastings. Those two girls were sophomores when I took over and accepted every bit of the challenge that I gave to them when I first got here. They’ve stayed with the course. It’s going to be good to finally send them out.”
