U S Fish & Wildlife Earmarks $250K to Montana for Grizzly Bear Management Efforts

U.S. Fish & Wildlife Earmarks $250K to Montana for Grizzly Bear Management Efforts The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has allocated $250,000 to go towards grizzly bear management for private land owners in Montana. With this decision, residents will be able to manage grizzly bears on their land who are suspected of damaging livestock in 2021. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) has specifically allocated the funds “for federal Wildlife Services agents to use lethal and non-lethal control of grizzly bears suspected of attacking cattle and other livestock.” “The Trump Administration has prioritized implementing practices to address issues impacting private landowners and the livestock industry,” FWS Director Aurelia Skipwith told KPVI. “U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is proud to work alongside the USDA to address grizzly bear livestock depredations in Montana. Partnerships like this allow us to further grizzly bear conservation.”

2020 Michigan Elk Season Deemed a Success

2020 Michigan Elk Season Deemed a Success Michigan elk hunters had a very successful year in 2020. Several lucky hunters got “the experience of a lifetime” this past fall, and were able to seal the deal on one of Michigan’s most coveted hunts. According to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, 131 state hunters harvested elk (46 bulls, 72 cows and 13 calves), and one Pure Michigan Hunt winner harvested a bull during the September/October season. The second season, which takes place in December, was greeted with ideal weather conditions allowing another batch of lucky hunters to punch their tags on Michigan elk. The nine-day December season is used to manage overall elk numbers, including those in the core elk management area, which includes Presque Isle, Montmorency, Cheboygan, Otsego, Alpena, Oscoda, Charlevoix, Alcona and Crawford counties.

A Man Had to be Rescued After Falling Through Ice Trying to Save a Deer

A Man Had to be Rescued After Falling Through Ice Trying to Save a Deer Alright, I must stress that I’m not a monster. And the thought of a deer falling through ice is extremely unfortunate, but I can’t honestly say I would walk out on ice I knew was dangerously thin to rescue the animal. I’m not quite sure what that says about me, but judging how it went with this Maine man when he attempted to play hero, I think I’ll stick to my guns on this one. News Center Maine reports 63-year-old Rick Crowe from Princeton had to be rescued by Maine Game Wardens and Princeton Police after he fell into the frigid cold waters of Long Lake on Monday morning. According to Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife spokesperson Mark Latti, Crowe was taking a canoe out to rescue the deer in distress, when the canoe flipped. Evidently, Crowe’s wife was standing by and called game wardens for help.
