Despite deer season being a bit of a let down for me personally this year, my hunting season as a whole was more than salvaged after receiving an opportunity to go down to Texas in mid-November to try and catch up with some ducks and geese as they traveled their annual migratory flyway, and also get my hands on Savage’s ‘new-look’ Renegauge shotgun in TrueTimber Praire camouflage pattern. Thousands of restaurants and bars in Michigan have been fighting tooth and nail to keep their doors open while the state’s restrictions on indoor dining remain in effect, but one restaurant in western Michigan has developed a new twist for serving their customers outdoors.
According to FOX 17, the family behind the Sand Bar and Grill in Middleville, Michigan had been formulating a plan on how to expand their outdoor dining accommodations, which led to the creation of – drum roll..
‘Shanty Land’
That’s right, the restaurant is currently inviting anyone to bring their ice shanties, ground blinds or tents out to their parking lot for service, where they can safely enjoy their meals outdoors and next to a giant fireplace. Sounds like a brilliant idea to me!
Ohio Confirms First CWD Case in Wild Whitetail Deer
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife has identified a positive test for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in a wild Ohio whitetail deer in Wyandot County.
The adult male deer was taken by a hunter on private property, ODNR says, and is the first confirmed case of CWD discovered in the wild deer population in the state. Tissue samples were submitted for testing by a taxidermist and the positive test was identified after results were obtained on Thursday, December 10.
CWD is a fatal neurological disease that affects whitetail deer and other similar species, including mule deer, elk, and moose. Its symptoms include drastic weight loss (wasting), stumbling, listlessness and other neurological problems. The disease is fatal, and there is no known treatment or vaccine, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

Mountain Lion Killed in North Texas Likely Same Animal Spotted in Rowlett, Princeton, Wildlife Officials Say
A hunter in Texas had an unusual encounter in the woods on Saturday, when a mountain lion suddenly appeared and approached the blind he was deer hunting from.
Texas game wardens have a strong hunch that the nearly six-foot long, 160-pound male mountain lion might have been the very same lion spotted just a few weeks ago further south. KXII News 12 reports the large cat was approaching the hunter in his deer blind on Saturday when he fatally shot the animal.
Game Warden Randolph McGee says even with the large number of deer that roam the area, mountain lions are not commonly found in north Texas.
