jobs? joining me now is national radio talk show host and best selling author neil borst. good to see you on the curvy couch. does it create jobs to give people $1,000 more in their paychecks? no. no. to create jobs, you have to incentivize the employer. nobody is going to go out and say let s hire somebody for a two month tax break or a one year tax break. you need permanency in these tax breaks in order to encourage employers to say ok, now, we can talk about expanding. this is not about creating jobs. this is about creating political advantage. right. because republicans and democrats alike know that there s an election year coming up and nobody wants to be the person who said that they weren t going to put more money in somebody s wallet? well, the way things have been going the last week, you would wonder if the republicans really know there s an election year coming up. i mean, does boehner have mitch mcconnell s phone number? does mitch mcconnell have boehner s phone numbe
numbers and what it tells us about the economy. right now this morning at 9:00 a.m. eastern time. it s a solid base hit. how s that? not a grand slam, but a base hit for the economy. you had job creation a little better than people had thought and remember the big zero in august, no jobs created in august. well, the government, kyra, came back and upgraded its assessment for what happened in august. now, 57,000 jobs created in august. also, july revised higher, as well. so, when you look at the whole picture. you have an unemployment rate at 9.1% and 103,000 jobs added in the month of september and august and july both increased in terms of the amount of hiring. when we look within the kind of sectors that are hiring, professional and business services. the private sector did a little bit better. you saw the government shedding jobs, but the private sector was hiring in professional and business services and temporary workers, it s a trend we ve seen for more than a year an
from you at another firm. so you will try to get that guy on your team. wait a minute. this is the government saying, wu don t want you to hire the best person. right. the government is stepping in and trying to allocate the jobs, who should get hired. they will say, look, don t hire somebody who has a job, hire somebody who doesn t have a job. again, it is well intentioned, but it s profoundly naive. is this going to result in an explosion of frivolous lawsuits? if it s passed, it clearly will. there is no question about it because the unemployed person doesn t have a down side and the trial lawyers don t have a down side because they don t have enough to do, so they ll bring the action and the contingency lawsuit. it is clearly going to create costs, red tape. it s going to dis-incent employers from opening a job slot. that s the last thing we need in this economy. you know what, often buried in legislation, the fine print
