Giants pick up Saquon Barkley’s 5th-year option for 2022: Here’s how much it’ll cost

In an offseason full of Giants surprises, they made a move everyone expected on Wednesday:
The Giants picked up the fifth-year option in Saquon Barkley’s contract, locking him in to a fully guaranteed salary for 2022. This was an expected measure for a player the organization still views as the face of the franchise.

Now the question becomes when (or if) the Giants will ultimately sign Barkley to a long-term contract extension.
Barkley was the No. 2 overall pick out of Penn State in 2018, getting 2,028 total yards, 15 touchdowns and a Pro Bowl selection as a rookie. His numbers dipped in 2019 (1,441 yards, eight touchdowns) as he battled an ankle injury.

The NFL Draft will start on Thursday night at 8 p.m. ET with the first round, though the Giants won’t make their selection until the 11th overall pick.
It is a mystery who the Giants will target they’ve been tied to Alabama wide receivers DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle, Alabama corner Patrick Surtain, Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons and others but not where they will pick.
