laura tells us vacationers are willing to spend more. people are getting ready to hit the roads. memorial day weekend kicks off the start of the summer travel season. aaa predicting around 34.8 million americans will pack up their cars and trucks and venture off 50 miles or more from home. that is up slightly around 1.2% from last year. aaa says although the number of travelers has picked up, the high prices at the pump mean people are cutting their vacation costs elsewhere, like staying closer to home. people can save on their holiday fuel budget with a few common steps. the first is inflate your tires properly. tune your engine properly. take any unneeded junk out of the trunk of your car. if you do all those things, you ll save fuel. google s expert says folks can also use technology to help them save cash on the road. there are plenty of apps out there that you can tap into. it has come down a little bit. but if you want to find that absolute cheapest price, there
through the d.c. area. in fact, this is video from our tower captain a short time ago. you can see the cam taken a short time ago. you can see the lightning in the skies. sue palka is in the weather center. it has been a spectacular lightning show and dangerous, too shawn. in the last 30 minutes we ve seen these storms start to weaken. we ve got some huge airport delays, reagan national two hours delays, dulles up to 30 minutes and increasing, bwi 45 minutes. of course, it s about that lightning. we ll start with radar so you can see what s going on around the region. the most intense storms now are south and east of the city. they are again weakening very quickly, but let me show you sentinel radar because the lightning over the last two hours has been spectacular. you can see now very much concentrated south and east. we think down through the stafford area, culpeper, king george, you guys have a tremendous amount of rain in addition to this lightning and some of these

scores maybe the result of cheating. now the superintendent is fighting back. and there s something missing from this georgetown university clock tower. why the school cannot rush the replacement. we begin tonight, though, with the hunt for those two dangerous criminals. thanks for joining us tonight. i m shawn yancy. i m brian bolter. police say they re behind two incidents this month both on jones lane in potomac, one victim kidnapped and robbed at gunpoint. now investigators have released surveillance pictures. take a good look. fox 5 s karen gray houston working this now. police are looking for two dangerous armed robbers who bumped into motorists late at night in north potomac last month. they were two separate incidents and in one the motorist was assaulted, placed in the trunk of his car and taken to atms to get money. they are scary looking pictures of a masked bandit at an atm. if anything about him resembles anyone you know, police want to hear from you and
police think the man is around 50 years old. as you can see, he s wearing a bright colored red hooded sweat shirt, blank pants and a white or khaki baseball cap. immediately after the shooting rite aid hire an armed guard to provide security at the store. the drugstore was closed behind yellow police tape the rest of the day. police say it all started when the gunman walked into the store around 12:30 in the afternoon. one clerk was able to get away. the store manager heard a commotion and when he rushed to the front to check it out, he was shot in the back. i m shocked that it happened in broad daylight like that because there will be kids sometime going to the store and stuff. it could have been anybody. it could have been, you know, your mother or anybody. it s just a shame that someone would do something like that. authorities are looking for a dark complexioned black man around 50 years old. he was wearing again that red hooded sweat shirt, black pants and khaki chor
