The City of Fairfield will have several Christmas events this weekend in the downtown area. Chamber Director Libby Lingafelter says the City has rented a portable ice-skating rink, and they expect it to be set up just west of the courthouse on Third Street. Admission will be $10 for adults and $5 for students, and children five and under are free. The rink will be open from 5 to 9 tomorrow, from noon to 7 on Saturday for everyone and from 7 to 10 for high school students and above, and from noon to 5 on Sunday. The Illinois Eastern Community College Board of Trustees met Tuesday at Wabash Valley College and approved a resolution for the partial abatement taxes for tax year 2021. County Clerks of the 12 counties in the district will be instructed to abate $250,000 in taxes, and the action will result in a deduction of the tax levy passed in November. The Wayne City School Board met last night and approved use of its parking lot for the Wayne City Matters Trunk or Treat on the 31st. The board also discussed the tax levy, and a 9.99 percent increase was recommended for the next two years. The board will hold a final vote on the levy in December. The North Wayne Christmas for Kids Annual Halloween Chili Supper Fundraiser is scheduled to be held next Friday, October 29th, at the Cisne Fire Department. The event will run from 4 p.m. to sell out, and it will be drive-through only due to COVID restrictions. The cost is by donation, and all profits will be used for Christmas for Kids in the North Wayne area. Wayne County Board Chairman Bruce Reeves says the board will not vote on naming an Interim Sheriff at its meeting tonight. He says the board must first formally declare a vacancy for the position, and letters will then be sent to the Republican and Democratic Party Chairs. The board is expected to hold a special session in the coming days to bring the matter to a vote. The North Wayne School Board held a special session last night to vote on following the state mask mandate for schools. The board voted 7-0 in favor of keeping masking optional for the year, both indoors and on buses. North Wayne is the second board in the Wayne/Edwards County area to have such a vote, joining Edwards County.
