The City of Fairfield will have several Christmas events this weekend in the downtown area. Chamber Director Libby Lingafelter says the City has rented a portable ice-skating rink, and they expect it to be set up just west of the courthouse on Third Street. Admission will be $10 for adults and $5 for students, and children five and under are free. The rink will be open from 5 to 9 tomorrow, from noon to 7 on Saturday for everyone and from 7 to 10 for high school students and above, and from noon to 5 on Sunday. The Illinois Eastern Community College Board of Trustees met Tuesday at Wabash Valley College and approved a resolution for the partial abatement taxes for tax year 2021. County Clerks of the 12 counties in the district will be instructed to abate $250,000 in taxes, and the action will result in a deduction of the tax levy passed in November. The board also awarded a bid to Consulab for a hybrid drive train simulator for Frontier Community College, and awarded a bid to Lake County Auctions for a digger derrick truck. In personnel moves, the board approved employment for Ashley Gonzalez as Office Assistant at FCC, effective January 3rd. The Fairfield Community High School Board of Education will meet tonight at 6 in the school study hall. It is set to adopt the tax levy for 2021 for taxes payable in 2022 and approve a new ceramics and pottery class in old business. In new business, the board is anticipated to approve a dual credit agreement with the IECC. December-16-2021 The FCHS Class of 22 AfterProm Committee has announced the December 16th, $100 winner for its 12 Days of Christmas Drawing. The winner is Becky August, and the winning ticket was sold by Kian August. The Edwards County Health Office announced 24 new cases of COVID-19 in the past week, bringing its total to 1,227; 20 cases were in unvaccinated individuals. Wabash County added 31 cases in the last week and sat at 2,317. Two people were hospitalized, and 39 were in isolation. Hamilton County announced four new cases yesterday to reach 1,435, with two people hospitalized and 14 in isolation. White County reported 11 cases yesterday morning and sat at 3,254, and Jefferson County reported 31. The state Department of Public Health announced 9,784 new cases and 79 additional deaths. Statewide totals sat at 1,921,433 cases and 27,013 deaths. The Southern Region had a seven-day positivity rate of 6.9 percent on the 12th, up from 6.8 percent on the 11th. River stages as of early this morning: the Little Wabash east of Fairfield stands at 9.13 feet, below the 17 ft. flood stage. Meanwhile, the Skillet Fork at Wayne City has a reading of 5.09 feet (flood stage is 15 ft.). The Little Wabash below Clay City is at 7.66 feet (flood stage is 18 ft.). Bonpas Creek at Browns reads 3.05 feet, and the Little Wabash at Main Street in Carmi reads 5.34 feet. The Wabash River at Mt. Carmel sits at 12.60 feet. Today's crude oil price is $63.75, unchanged from yesterday. The January crude oil price is $71.47, up $1.35 from yesterday morning.
