TRUSSVILLE A third game won’t be necessary.
The No. 1-ranked Hewitt-Trussville baseball team opened up its postseason run at home on Friday with a two-game sweep of Grissom. The Huskies (28-4) followed a 3-2 win in the early session with a 6-3 series clincher in the nightcap to march into the Class 7A quarterfinals.
The Area 6 champions will host Hoover next week in the second round after the Bucs swept sixth-ranked Bob Jones on Friday night.
“We haven’t played them this year, but this is what you want in the playoffs,” said Hewitt-Trussville pitcher Skylar Jones. “You want to play the best of the best. It makes me want to get after them.”

TRUSSVILLE It was a special night at Phil English Field in Trussville, as the Huskies hosted Springville for military appreciation night Thursday.
Players on both sides took the field alongside veterans representing different branches of the U.S. military. The mix of young and old stood together for the pregame playing of the national anthem. One of the many participants was Roger Treglown, who is the grandfather of Huskies’ varsity player Carson Treglown.
“It’s an honor,” said Roger, following the ceremony. “It’s an honor to represent our county and our service out there and for people to respect us. When I served, a lot of people coming back from Vietnam weren’t respected.”
