Drove into work, i was on the freeway, on the opposite side of the fire and i could feel the heat in my car. I can only imagine ha it is what it is like right there. Reporter you can definitely feel it from where i am standing right now. Right now, it is really intense right now in terms of the heat. Lots of smoke and ashes coming from the building. It is under construction. We are working on gathering more details in terms of how this fire started. And you can see, a huge heavy response here. Several different agencies still making their way over here. We have heard that there are possible evacuations as well. Already damage to the building under construction here. You can see at least three or four cars caught on fire. We will bring you the latest on the story as it it comes in. It is not impacting traffic but you can see it on the freeway. From almeda county, oakland fire, a mutual response to this fire. And you can see it from the freeway, earlier this morning. And still, we dont know the cause of how this fire started. We also understand there are some evacuations as well. There is an apartment complex on 35th and adeline that was evacuated as a result of this huge fire that many of you probably have seen on the freeway, if youre driving out earlier this morning. Either on 580. Highway 24 as well. But certainly a huge response to this fire. A huge fire. San pablo avenue. And 39th. Here in emeryville. And as we take it back out here live, crews continuing to pour water on to this building. That is roughly about an hour, hour and a half ago, a portion of it collapsed just a little bit. Because it wasnt fully constructed, we expect that some more of it may collapse here. The other concern here, guys, is that there is a crane that is nearby. Emeryville oakland border, and People Living close by tell me they grabbed what they could and they ran to escape the flames. Here well give you a live look at what is left of this six story apartment complex, the structure that originally caught fire this morning. It burned so hot that it spread to those townhomes just next door, and it also threatened so many other homes nearby. Towering flames lit up the Early Morning sky in the east bay as this fire raged out of control for hours. Whoa a loud bang coming from this construction as well. Reporter cars parked nearby exploded in flames like during mornings on 2, and embers from the fire blew through the neighborhood. Embers were just raining down, you know . I was worried about houses catching fire down wind. Reporter at least 50 people were evacuated from this townhome complex next door to the fire, and five of these units eventually burned. Many of you that drive early in the morning, may have seen it on the freeway. And lets go ahead and listen now to what we heard and saw. A loud bang coming from the scene of the fire. Earlier, when we started at 4 00 this morning, we heard a loud explosion, actually it came from the tires of three cars that were parked nearby, to this Apartment Building. And that is what you possibly heard this morning. And then there is also a portion of the building that has collapsed. Now, there is some concern, there is a crane, also, nearby, and quite frankly, fire crews tell me that they are surprised that this crane hasnt fallen, and they were concerned, because earlier, when this fire started, it was seen swaying back and forth.
