Here well give you a live look at what is left of this six story apartment complex, the structure that originally caught fire this morning. It burned so hot that it spread to those townhomes just next door, and it also threatened so many other homes nearby. Towering flames lit up the Early Morning sky in the east bay as this fire raged out of control for hours. Whoa a loud bang coming from this construction as well. Reporter cars parked nearby exploded in flames like during mornings on 2, and embers from the fire blew through the neighborhood. Embers were just raining down, you know . I was worried about houses catching fire down wind. Reporter at least 50 people were evacuated from this townhome complex next door to the fire, and five of these units eventually burned. Marleau ingram and her family live down the block from the fire, but when they woke up this morning they could see an orange glow outside and they could feel the heat. Thats pretty scary. You walk outside the door and you are watching embers going past you and neighbors in droves coming past your house because now they are evacuating everyone. Reporter she packed up some pictures and everyone got out. While one of her daughters went door to door to alert her neighbors. Just knocking on the door so they were awake with the children, as well, making sure everybody could be safe. Reporter firefighters were brought in from across the east bay to battle the flames. The lead agency here, the Alameda CountyFire Department used a drone with a thermal imaging camera to monitor the spread of the fire. Because this building was under construction, it went up fast and it burned hot. It was stick framed. A building under construction. Produced a lot of heat. The adjoining businesses and residences were exposed to fire and it extended into those. Reporter back out here live, this crane, one of the concerns early on for the first crews that got here, they saw this crane kind of swaying a bit and there were some worries about its stability. They feel like it is somewhat secure, but obviously now after being damaged by this fire, this crane is going to have to be taken down. Obviously, you can tell this building here, the original building that caught fire, is going to be a total loss. There is no estimate yet on exactly the damage estimate in terms of a dollar figure on this. Also, we are trying to get more information on the investigation here today. The cause of the fire not exactly clear. You guys, despite the fact that this fire started inside an unoccupied building that was under construction, they are not labeling it as suspicious, although it would seem to raise some red flags. According to the mercury news, 5,000 people have signed a new petition saying they dont want to serve on a jury in judge Aaron Perskys court. He came under fire after sentencing former stanford athlete brock turner to six months in jail for the Sexual Assault of an unconscious woman on the stanford campus. Prosecutors wanted him to get six years in prison. A man facing rape and other charges after police say he attacked an acquaintance after a dinner party. Police arrested the 27year old. The woman took zhou in. They say zhou then sexually assaulted her and threatened her with a knife telling her she could not leave. She was able to get out after several hours. This evening the San FranciscoPolice Commission is set to get an update on the search for a new chief. Its expected to tell a three Person Committee today about the progress. Toney chaplin has been leading the department in the wake of greg suhrs abrupt resignation in may after a controversy of deadly officerinvolved shootings in francisco. The final decision is up to the Police Commission and the mayor. A grand jury says the city must be more timely and transparent. The grand jury said investigators of fatal officer involved shootings take too long and that the public lacks access to information. Since the beginning of last year there have been eight fatal shootings by police in San Francisco. The owner of the Convenience Store says sterling did not have a gun in his hand when he was shot, but that he saw officers remove a gun from sterlings pocket after the shooting. The police chief says sterling was armed, but there are questions about what happened. This morning sterlings family spoke out. It will not go unnoticed for the future. Justice for the future. These are thousands of Marijuana Plants that were growing inside multiple houses. They are here locked into this truck for evidence. Outside several cars are being towed because police say they were paid for with drug money. We want to take you inside the home to see what we found. We consider this a sophisticated grow. Pg e is here currently. They are looking where the source of all the power was coming from. So theyre currently investigating that right now because that is a theft against pg e, obviously. Reporter the metro unit served search warrants on eight homes earlier this morning all in south san jose. Seven of them turned out to be marijuana grow houses. Plants were found in most of the rooms. Some as tall as 7 feet. Police say they were all elaborate operations with special lighting and ventilation through the homes. This is a significant bust for police because they estimate the plants are worth a few million dollars. They also made several arrests, including this couple. 39yearold vin trin and 38 yearold kim lee of san jose. Investigators say the couple was tied to all the grow houses busted this morning. We have to determine, you know, who these individuals were just on this operation alone. We have approximately six people in custody right now. We are interviewing those individuals to determine if there is anybody else involved. Reporter here is video of another man who was arrested and found at one of the grow houses. This bust was dubbed operation green sweep and metro was working on it for the past three months. A homeowner who was surrounds suspicious about a renter called police. They found 700 Marijuana Plants. This led them to the homes today. As you may have heard before from the Police Officer we spoke with, pg e is also investigating as well because in many of these homes they bypass the electrical system so they were stealing power. Police say that can be a very dangerous situation because there is also chemicals inside the house. So its very unsafe for neighbors. This is a live picture down at the scene. Can you see the ladder trucks still up, pouring water onto that construction site that lit up this morning. The water actually had a problem with the pressure, i should say. The firefighters had a problem with the water pressure earlier this morning, but east bay mud cranked it up. They are still putting out the hot spots there. The fire forced dozens of people to evacuate their homes. This fire again starting just about 2 45 this morning, and those firefighters remaining on scene this afternoon and probably well into the evening. That fire broke out at what was called a residential building under construction. In fact, it burned so hot a neighboring complex of townhouses caught fire. Five homes were burned along with an auto body shop. No injuries reported. 100 firefighters were brought in from across the east bay to battle the flames. Many remain at the scene perhaps through the evening to put out any hot spots and monitor the area. They are keeping an eye on an unstable con construction crane. Workers say it was hard to watch all their hard work go up in flames. A lot of man hours on this. A lot of labor. Its just gone in a couple hours. Investigators say its too early to say what caused the fire. Despite the fact that it began inside an unoccupied building, its not being labeled as suspicious. There are vehicles on fire. There were this morning. During a life report on mornings on 2 today one of the tires exploded. Listen. This fire started around 2 45 this morning whoa loud bang coming from this construction site as well. Several cars in the area were damaged by flames and blowing embers. And in mountain view, allegedly fire crews responded to a fire at a pet boys auto shop. This is the scene from sky5 above the store around 6 00 this morning. Officials say a vehicle in the work area somehow ignited. Fire crews kept flames from damaging the rest of the building. And sprinklers helped prevent the fire from getting out of hand. We have a fire investigator coming out. Its kind of unusual, but it happens. Cars have a Battery Power and whatever. There could be a malfunction. That fire again burning in union city. There were no reports of any injuries. In the south bay police are investigating several instances of drivers being shot at along a busy san jose road. Ktvus janine de la vega explains where its happening and police say its a challenge to solve. Reporter the shootings are happening on blossom hill and occurring between midnight and one in the morning when its very dark. Police have scoured the area looking for surveillance tape, but so far they dont have any leads. This map pinpoints location on blossom hill where four different vehicles have been shot. Its between Pew Poughkeepsie and monterey road. The female driver on saturday was injured by shrapnel. A male driver in one of the other shootings suffered a graze wound. Police say its fortunate no one was seriously hurt. They need help identifying who is responsible. We dont have any information right now. So its incumbent upon the public either through social media, maybe somebody is bragging about what they did, maybe somebody knows somebody that may possess a weapon. Things of that nature. We are looking for any information that we can get on these shootings. Reporter police saying none of the victims involved know each other and the suspect appears to be shooting randomly. Police have dedicated extra resources to this case. They want people to travel along this stretch of blossom hill to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings. San mateo county deputies say 59yearold lat u lavaki molested the girls. Police say there may be more victims. The investigation started in august of 2015. It is still ongoing. He was arrested in utah where he now lives. He was extradited back to San Mateo County. Oakland police went to stockton to track down a homicide suspect and the situation ended with the 55 yearold suspect taking his own life. Stockton pd told the sacramento news station and police went to the red roof inn near interstate 5. When officers approached the room they heard gunfire from inside. They backed off and called in the s. W. A. T. Team. Police entered the room and found the suspect shot and that he had killed himself. He was a suspect in a deadly shooting. The city of San Francisco is forming a task force around the gig economy. Its to describe the Economic Activity of people who use digital platforms as a source of income. The task force will operate out of the office of economic and are work force dont. It will examine the impact of these companies on self employed and contract workers. You can see there is that cloud deck hugging a good portion of the bay area shoreline we have that onshore breeze. Winds around 10 to 20 miles per hour. Its going to stick around. Here is a closer inspection. The overcast out towards ocean beach. The sunset district, downtown San Francisco, and still a few patches ex extending to berkeley. You can see right now clear skies towards walnut creek. That will be the theme over the next few days with more sunshine inland. Cooler temperatures on the coast. Probably a forecast you have heard hundreds of times over the past few years. Thats going to be the case for this for your july 6th and actually the next three to five days. Right now we have santa rosa 71. San jose 72 degrees. Water 68. Concord in the lower 70s. 71. This is a first major hurricane of the season, and here it is right now. Its hurricane blas with ones at 125 miles per hour. Thats a category 3 moving to the westnorthwest at 12 miles per hour. Right now the fog is going to be clinging to the coastline and pushing into the bay into the overnight hours. First thing thursday morning, and then clearing back to near the shoreline.
