Anyway, good afternoon, everybody. I am cathy kudlick. I am director of the paul k. Longmore institute on disability at San Francisco state. Just to give you a brief overview, i know not a lot of you knew paul and worked with paul. He was in this room many times. And the Longmore Institute of San Francisco State University is kind of a it brings together advocacy, academics, culture, and the whole point of it is to get people in conversation that might not otherwise be in conversation and to change attitudes about disability. So, through cultural initiatives, through academic programs, through basically changing peoples minds. And the idea here is that you take Something Like culture and you get people to think about disability as a form of experience on a par with race, gender, social class, all the things

And, so, our mayor today announced in a press conference that through the Mayors Office of housing that they have identified 4. 5 million worth of money to do these incredibly critical elevator renovations to make sure that those elevators are going to be reliable in the future. And there are nine specific properties that they have identified as being buildingses where theyre going to be making those improvements. Also over the next few months youre going to be hearing more from our office about the Housing Authority because the Housing Authority properties taken under the umbrella of the Mayors Office of housing are going to start contracting out the management of the Housing Authority properties to some local nonprofit housing providers. And what those nonprofits will be doing is putting forth plans to actually renovate and repair those properties. And our office does the Quality Control permit review and field inspection of those. It would be so great if we could have them put in a community calendar, too, in San Francisco. Wheelchairs and also folk that have disabilities meaning they are only able to afford housing that is affordable for someone on Public Benefits such as social security. Housing is a big issue were involved in. Technology, and peoples ability to access Assistive Technology. So, that may mean a really cool wheelchair. That may mean technology that allows you to read braille, or could also just mean a computer with skype on it so if you have a hearing loss, for example, you can actually see the mouth of the person youre talking to as youre having the conversation. My organization operates a device lending library. Actually, one of your councilmembers, derek, is the lead on that project. And we have technology that people can essentially try before they buy. One of the big equalizers, i believe, that does allow folks with disabilities to function and live life of freedom, choice and autonomy is Assistive Technology. We know he its expensive, so, we have a mechanism to let people come in an
