ZAMBOANGA CITY - The city health office (CHO) has so far recorded a total of 17 cases of Omicron variant of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) here. Dr. Dulce Amor Miravite, city health officer, said Wednesday the cases were among the several samples they sent to the Philippine Genome Center for testing last month. She said they received the results of the tests on February 3 from the center. Miravite said 14 of the 17 were acquired through community transmission, two were authorized persons outside residence (APOR), and one was a returning overseas Filipino (ROF). "All of these (cases) have already recovered," she said. Meanwhile, she said Covid-19 active cases have decreased by 213 to 1,748 on Tuesday from 1,961 on Monday. She said 1,690 or 96.68 percent of the 1,748 active cases were acquired through community transmission. ZAMBOANGA CITY - The city government is setting the stage for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccination rollout here for children aged five to 11 years old. Dr. Dulce Amor Miravite, city health officer, said Thursday they are waiting for the vaccines suitable for the youngest age group and its appropriate syringes before the rollout can proceed.No date was specified for the rollout. In preparation for the rollout, Miravite said they have started the registration of eligible children, collaborating efforts with the different agencies such as the Department of Education, and setting schedules and preparing a list of vaccination sites, among others. "As of this time, the registration for the youngest age group is ongoing at the different health centers," she said. The decline was particularly noted between January 31 and February 1, when cases dropped by 52 from 2,683 to 2,631. The CHO said this came about as 133 new recoveries were recorded and 88 new cases were registered on February 1. "We hope that the decreasing trend will continue," CHO chief Dr. Dulce Amor Miravite said in a statement. However, she said the death toll increased to 1,152 as an additional seven new deaths were reported. As of February 1, the city has a total of 27,068 confirmed Covid-19 cases with 23,285 recoveries, 2,631 active cases, and 1,152 deaths.
