Faculty Senate discusses resolution decisions, incoming senators Posted By: Features Editor May 5, 2021 Dionte Berry The final Faculty Senate meeting of the spring 2021 semester was held on Zoom on Tuesday, May 4. The meeting started by welcoming new senate members that will be serving for the 2021-22 academic year. After being welcomed by Faculty Senate President David Roach, the senate went on to confirm their returning senators as well as their outgoing senators. The senators that were not returning were presented with certificates of appreciation for the work they have done. “I am excited for those that have joined the faculty senate, and to the returning senators I am glad you are coming back for another tour of duty,” said Faculty Regent and Journalism Professor Melony Shemberger. “I look forward to working with you. To the leaving senators, thank you for all the work you have done.”

Creative writing department celebrates graduating seniors Posted By: Features Editor April 28, 2021 Dionte Berry dberry11@murraystate.edu To give their seniors a send off, the creative writing program hosted a senior reading to celebrate creative writing seniors.  On Tuesday, April 27, after the course of their college careers, creative writing seniors went through their past works and chose what they wanted to read. Each senior had around 12 minutes to showcase whatever work they desired. The event was coordinated by Assistant Professor of English and Creative Writing Carrie Jerrell who was happy to have an in-person event. “It’s great that we finally have an event back in-person,” Jerrell said. “It’s a sign that we are able to return to normalcy.”

Board of Regents discusses tuition, housing and dining rates in special meeting Posted By: Features Editor April 23, 2021 Dionte Berry A special Board of Regents was called into session via Zoom on Friday, April 23, and they began the meeting by swearing in a new member. After being sworn in, Robert Fitch expressed his thanks to the Board and congratulated the rest of the members on making it through a school year like none other with COVID-19. The board also re-elected vice-chair Eric Crigler and Secretary Jill Hunt. Committee Report: Finance Committee Regent Leon Owens discussed the authorization of the 2021-2022 tuition and mandatory fee rates. 

Ads Club competes in national tournament

Ads Club competes in national tournament Posted By: Features Editor April 21, 2021 Dionte Berry dberry11@murraystate.edu After nearly two semesters of work and preparation, the Ads Club competed in the annual National Student Advertising Competition sponsored by the American Advertising Federation. Each year, competing schools are given a client to make an advertising campaign for and then given a list of criteria and a budget to go by. The campaign serves to expand the brand of their client and bring in new customers.  This year, the team was led by senior advertising major Matthew Anderson who is president and project manager of Ads Club.

All Campus Sing is back Posted By: Features Editor April 15, 2021 Dionte Berry @murraystate.edu Student organizations and residental halls compete in All Campus Sing on Wednesday, April 14, after being cancelled last year as the school shut down because of COVID-19.  As a result of COVID-19, groups were only able to compete with a maximum of three people at a time in the Performing Arts Hall in the Old Fine Arts building from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Teams were judged and scored based on many different standards, such as creativity, choreography, costume as well as how the teams participated in the Cashapp wars and the instrument drive.
