A special Board of Regents was called into session via Zoom on Friday, April 23, and they began the meeting by swearing in a new member.
After being sworn in, Robert Fitch expressed his thanks to the Board and congratulated the rest of the members on making it through a school year like none other with COVID-19. The board also re-elected vice-chair Eric Crigler and Secretary Jill Hunt.

The Murray State University Board of Regents during a special meeting Friday voted to allow the university administration to increase tuition and mandatory fees up to 1% if necessary. The board also swore in a Murray dentist as a new regent.
President Bob Jackson said an increase of 1% to tuition and mandatory fees would generate about $650,000 across undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs, with a net cost increase of about $60 to $65 for each student.
“We have many deferred maintenance, asset preservation projects and renovation areas we need to focus on.including the Curris Center,” Jackson said. “Last year, we had a zero percent increase in faculty and staff raises, and we hope to be able to recommend faculty and staff raises.”

After a record amount of applicants, the Student Government Association announced the new executive council for the 2021-22 academic year on Wednesday, March 10.
Ian Puckett, a junior from Mayfield, Kentucky, was elected president with 226 votes. Puckett was a former senator at-large and ran for president uncontested. He will be the next student regent on the Board of Regents.
“I am very excited to have the chance to serve all of our students at Murray State,” Puckett said. “I have served in several capacities in my time at MSU. I was a Summer O Counselor my freshman and sophomore years, IFC President as a sophomore and I have been in SGA since January of 2020. Dedicating myself to serving others has always been my mentality and that will not change while I am President. I can’t wait to work with everyone!”
