Seven-day legislative session to begin in K’taka on Thursday By IANS|   Published: 28th January 2021 1:41 am IST Bengaluru, Jan 27 : The seven-day legislative session in Karnataka will begin on Thursday with Governor Vajubhai Vala delivering the customary address to the joint sitting of the state legislature. The session is scheduled to conclude on February 5. This is the first session of the Karnataka legislature in the New Year and is likely to be stormy as the opposition parties are likely to corner the BJP government in the state, which is already battling resentment within after the recent cabinet rejig. This will be the first session after Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa expanded his cabinet for the third time in his 17-month rule by inducting seven new ministers and reallocating portfolios among certain ministers to quell the dissidence within his cabinet.

The BJP announced its decision on Wednesday to appoint its member, M. K. Pranesh, as its nominee for the deputy chairman’s post. Pranesh will be filing his nomination to the vacant post (deputy chairman) on Thursday and he will be elected on Friday, a senior BJP leader told IANS.

Deputy chief ministers Ashwathnarayan C N and Govind Karajola along with Cabinet ministers R Ashok, Madhuswamy, Umesh Katti, and BJP Members of the Legislative Council were present in the meeting. The session will begin on Thursday. On December 15 last year, the Karnataka Legislative Council had witnessed ruckus in the house. The house was adjourned sine die following the forceful removal of Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council from the Chair by Congress MLCs.

Prathapachandra Shetty in the winter session of the legislature, the BJP and JD(S) have given another notice to move the motion in the upcoming joint session, which will commence on Thursday. Attempts by the BJP and the JD(S) to unseat the Chairman on December 15 had led to acrimonious scenes after the Chairman rejected the notice on the grounds that it did not state any specific reason for moving it. “Notice has been given by both parties separately again to move the no-confidence motion,” JD(S) leader Basavaraj Horatti, who is the most senior member of the Council, confirmed.
