India has administered the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine to 9.5 crore people and the second dose to 1.34 crore till April 13, thus vaccinating 10.85 crore people so far, the health ministry data shows. But Maharashtra-the most affected state-has so far vaccinated only 77.3 lakh above the age of 45. The state not only has the highest cases and deaths in the country but also has one of the highest test positivity rates in the world.

New Delhi: The COVID-19 situation remained grim in Uttar Pradesh as the country s most populous state recorded its highest-ever spike in daily cases on Tuesday. According to the state health department, UP registered 18,021 fresh coronavirus cases and 85 new deaths in the last 24 hours.
The total number of cases in the state now stands at 7.23 lakh while the death toll has mounted to 9,309. As many as 3,474 people were discharged in this period, reducing the active cases in Uttar Pradesh to 95,980.
