Denver 7 reporter Lindsay Watts is live on the scene. Police. Reporter officers here are investigating a very scary situation that unfolded about two hours ago. Police say that three men broke into one of these apartments behind me and then shot a woman inside. Police say that her injuries dont appear to be life threatening. She was able to talk. She was transported to the hospital. We are hoping she is going to be all right. Those three suspects are still on the run right now. Police havent offered much of a description of them. We just know they are three African American men. You can see police have set up a large perimeter. This is 38th avenue right at the intersection of high street. Police responded to a call this morning just before 6 am of a suicidal woman. A Crisis Negotiation Team went to the scene to try to convince the woman to comply with police. The woman refused and later came out of the house with a shotgun. She attempted to shoot herself by putting the gun below her chin but she could not pull the trigger. She then turned the gun towards the officers. At that time she raised the shotgun and pointed it at the officers nearby. At which time two of our swat snipers fired. The tactic medic was on scene and attempted to provide medical care. However the female was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the officers will be released after fortyeight hours.
