The california Highway Patrol confirmed to us moments ago Governor Newsom is sending chp officers to the city as it deals with growing crime concerns. The mayor and Police Department requested the help with traffic enforcement. Officers will focus on sideshows, auto thefts, and freeway shootings. One of the most recent shootings on 580 last month left an 8yearold little boy in grave condition. So the state right now is committing six chp officers and a sergeant to oakland along with a 1. 2 million loan for automated license plate readers. So its unclear how many that will buy or where theyll be installed. Oakland mayor sheng thao told the chronicle her administration is doing everything we can to both prevent violence and hold people accountable for carrying out crimes in our city, adding that she is grateful to the governor for the support.
Created a memorial of flowers for Yesenia Lopez hernandez, who was stabbed and killed early sunday morning at her home in redwood city. San mateo County District attorney Steve Wagstaffe tells me she was a victim of Domestic Violence and the suspect is her former partner, jose uriarte martinez. The two had a five year old son together. Im just terrified to know that theres somebody like that that lives in front of us, the house and could commit such a horrible crime. Victim yesenia posted many photos of her family on social media and used her 17 year old daughters graduate photos on her profile page. The da says suspect martinez lived next door to the victim and entered her apartment with a key and used a kitchen knife to stab her in the chest, neck and shoulder multiple times. When she told him that she was going to move out of redwood city to another city in our county and take the five year old with him, he got angry.
